Baba Budan

Baba Budan is a coffee shop and doughnutterie located in The Arches on East Market Street. The offer a range of cold and hot drinks, doughnuts (d’oh!), pastries, sandwiches and soups.

Why Baba Budan?

Specialised in coffee, sourced from different and changing roasters in the UK and Europe, and doughnuts, Baba Budan bake and fill these in the adjourning unit that holds the kitchen.

Every day they prepare 4 different flavours of generously filled doughnuts, sometimes a 5th, for example on weekends, which may be a vegan one, or a yum yum. Be quick, though, as on some busy days these sought-after treats (available for £2.50) may be sold out by 2pm.

The vegetarian-friendly coffee shop also offers savoury food options such as soup of the day (£2.70 for a small, £3.70 for a large bowl), sausage rolls, veggie haggis sausage rolls, epic filled sandwiches and baguettes.

A small retail shelf is there for those who want to grab themselves a souvenir or gift in the form of ground coffee, loose tea, or tote bags.

Sit in and take away options are both available. There are some tables inside and several small ones outside from where an unobstructed view over to Calton Hill can be enjoyed.

For those who are exploring the Old Town and looking for a chilled place away from the hustle and bustle, Baba Budan is a great option. East Market Street runs parallel to the Royal Mile, and The Arches which stem from Victorian times and have been newly renovated are only a stone’s throw away from Waverley Station.
