Hannah Zakari is an independent jewellery and gift shop on Candlemaker Row.
Conveniently located around the corner from top tourist attraction Greyfriars Bobby and the Grassmarket, Hannah Zakari is a wonderful small shop that sells jewellery and stationary by selected independent local and international designers. The broad selection of jewellery includes necklaces, earrings, rings, brooches, great big statement pieces, but temporary tattoos, t-shirts, handbags, stationery items like notebooks, cards, to art prints (some of them limited) can also be purchased.
It is a joy to come in and have a browse when looking for an unusual gift for others, or for oneself. With each visit, a new favourite piece may end up on the wish-list. All items are either handmade or designed by different independent artists, and have been carefully selected by the owner Rachael.
From cute stud earrings, starting from around £10, to more extravagant statement pieces, there is such a big variety of styles and materials that have been worked with. Especially eye-catching are the acrylic pieces such as the extravagant necklaces and brooches. Those preferring simpler designs may opt for wood, brass, gold or silver as a material. The friendly staff are at hand to help choose, if desired.
For a small budget, there are cute embroidered patches, starting from just a couple of Pounds. The enamel pins cost a bit more, but with everything, prices depend on style and artist.
The greeting cards are pretty, cheeky, or plain cute. To adorn the walls with, there are prints by many different artists and in different styles to choose from. For lovers of fabrics, there are various quirky t-shirts and handbags. Every single item is all but boring.
Open daily from around noon, Hannah Zakari on Candlemaker Row is a great place to find unique gifts for various budgets, but it is hard not to fall in love and buy at least one item for oneself.
