This wee gem really does what it says on the tin. Tasty Buns Bakery serves great-tasting home-baked pastries, stunning looking cakes, tray bakes, truffles, sweet and savoury scones, epic brownies, soups of the day, and sandwiches, as well as great locally roasted coffee. There are different baked goods on offer every day, depending on demand and season. A selection of freshly baked bread is also available in the coffee shop, and all baking is done onsite.

Louise, the lovely owner, has turned her lifelong love for baking into a business, and also brings many years of barista experience to the table. This shows in everything you taste here.

Besides the delicious cakes and sweet treats, which are available at different prices depending on type (brownies cost around £2.80), there are sandwiches, and comforting soup of the day (for £3.75) to choose from. The coffee is great, and a selection of other hot and cold drinks is also available.

Tasty Buns have a recurrent event called Sconefest, where sweet and savoury combinations are created for many scone lovers to enjoy. It is now enjoying cult status in Edinburgh, and is a testament to the great flavours Louise dreams up for her small bakery and cafe.

The coffee shop has chairs and tables to make oneself comfortable at, take time out and enjoy coffee and cake, but all the goodies are also available to take away. Prices are fair, the quality is excellent, and staff are very friendly.

If you like great quality bakes that tickle your tastebuds, Tasty Buns is the place to try, because they love to experiment with flavours, and often booze is an ingredient, too. Opening hours are from 8:30am until 5pm (Saturdays 9:30 - 4pm) and closed on Sundays.
Tasty Buns Bakery can be found on Bread Street, walking westwards from the Grassmarket to West Port, but blink, and you might miss it. Don't do that, though, because it's definitely worth a visit.
